Seth: "I finally had a full day and great location to test all of my 3 favorite front wings with different tail combinations.
From a beach in La Ventana, with constant 15-20kn wind, a 4.3m and 5.3m Dynamo wind wing, a KT 80L Super K and 46L Ginxu 2, I was able to do 20-30 min sessions with many combinations of gear and really feel what each was capable of. The only thing missing was sizable waves. However, carving, pumping, gliding, high speed and low-end was all tested in knee high wind swell and downwind scenarios. I even did some tests with a pocket wing.
If I had to pick only one set up to use winging it would be the Osprey 750 paired with the Colibri 145 tail on the short fuse. This combination gives me a very controlled and highly maneuverable performance for a wide variety of conditions. The pop, glide, and pump ability of this combination allows me to ride hard and fast, from big airs to very tight caving, I LOVE this setup. Even when the wind is lighter, I can still shift to my midlength board and use this setup.
Next, I love the Osprey 950 for extra glide and pump, particularly in downwind riding. This foil is fast enough to keep up with long period groundswell and still highly maneuverable for short period wind swell and surf. The Colibri 145 tail makes this foil carve almost as hard as the 750, while the 180 and 220 tails can add more glide and pump ability.
Last, the 550 is the Ferrari foil. This thing is fast. I found it liked a bigger tail for extra stabilization and a longer fuse to control pitch. It has pushed me to really work on efficiency and speed in tacking. I am looking forward to some big wave towing with it soon.
Warning- I don’t recommend using foot straps or a board leash when pushing this foil to its limits!
I am 188cm tall and 75kg for reference."
